SEEING (AND SEALING) IS BELIEVING: NEW TYPAR® CLEAR FLASHING

After hearing some of our key builder customers have a clear need for a more transparent solution to window and door flashing, we are excited to announce that this month we are launching a genuine industry first—TYPAR® Clear Flashing. TYPAR® is officially the first in the industry to develop and release a Clear Flashing for residential and commercial window and door applications, as well as joint and seam treatments.

This game-changing product was developed in response to builders’ needs in the southern U.S. who, per code, needed better visibility of the pattern on window nailing fins during window installation and inspection. Florida building code requires window installers to use screws in a specific pattern (typically every other hole in a nail fin), which must be visible to a code inspector.

“It’s a real process,” said Jim Grow, president of JEG Sales, Inc. (a TYPAR rep agency), who was integral in communicating the product gap to the marketing and development teams at TYPAR. As it stands, window installers can’t install and flash windows in a single pass because the screw pattern wouldn’t be visible to the inspector once flashed. Once the window is installed, the builder then calls an inspector to come out and approve the screw pattern on the windows. Then, the builder calls the window installer back to finish installing the windows—meaning, putting up the flashing.

“That’s time and money!” said Grow. We agreed. And from there, TYPAR Clear Flashing was born.

We knew this product’s benefits would be more far-reaching than just Florida, however. Rework in construction projects often costs around 5% of the total project cost. Being able to offer customers a flashing product that can aid in both labor and cost savings by ensuring proper installation the first time can give pros a real edge, by helping to eliminate callbacks.

TYPAR Clear Flashing is the only flashing on the market that makes the pattern on window nailing fins completely visible. No more feeling with hands, or worse, lifting up already stuck-on tape or flashing. Now, installers and inspectors can actually see that windows are properly attached, which helps head off labor-wasting reworks and even costlier callbacks. TYPAR Clear Flashing features a premium, advanced acrylic adhesive that is waterproof, self-healing, and able to be applied at temperatures down to 20°F (-6.7°C). With a split-release liner for easy film removal, it makes a once tedious job faster and easier.
